Doi Sorsher Maacher Jhol : A Bengali Recipe

Bieng a Bengali I can vouch for other bongs that any meal in Bengali household is incomplete without a fish dish . We eat fish in all possible ways one can cook . But the most favourite way to cook fish is with Sorshe bata ( mustard paste) . So today I will share with you a recipe of Sorshe maach  which you can either steam cook or cook in a microwave.

Ingredients :-
4-5 piece medium size fish
3 tablespoon mustard paste
1/2 cup yogurt
1 medium size onion cut into small pieces
1 medium size tomato cut into small pieces
Coriander leaves cut into pieces
4 tablespoon of mustard oil for frying the fish
2 tablespoon of mustard oil for the yogurt mixture
1 teaspoon of salt
2 -3 numbers of green chilliest

Procedure :-

First heat the pan and fry the fish in the oil. Fry them lightly in medium flame . Arrange the fried fish in a baking dish with a lid or in a steel container with a cover which you can put in a steaming container. Then in a bowl mix the mustard paste with yogurt and mustard oil. Add salt to it. Mix it properly and then spread it over the fish pieces. Then scatter the onion and tomato pieces over it. Sprinkle the coriander leaves and green chillies over it. Cover it and put it in a steamer or in the microwave. If you are steaming do it for 10 minutes and if you are using the microwave then in high power cook it for five minutes. Before serving you might drizzle 3-4 drops of mustard oil over it if you like the tangy flavour of raw mustard oil or you may serve the dish as it is.
